Matthew 19:16, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Matthew 19:17: And HE said unto him, Why callest thou ME good? there is none good but one, that is, GOD: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
PLEASE NOTICE ! JESUS did not say the “10” Commandments !. These are the main ones, while there are many more.
In Deuteronomy 7:11 “Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
For those who want to know, there are approximately 613 Old Testament Laws (Commandments).
In the 12th Century AD, Maimonides divided the 613 Laws (Commandments) into positive “do this” Commandments, numbering 248, and negative “do not do this” Commandments, numbering 365, 1 for every day of our year.
Biblically speaking, whether or not 613 is the correct count is not important. The purpose of the Law (Commandments), was to point us to the WORD . In Galatians 3:24….”Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ JESUS, that we “MIGHT BE” justified by faith !
No one can even perfectly obey the 10 Commandments let alone all of the others. The GOD of Abraham gave us the Laws, Statutes, Commandments and Testimony to define our Sins and show us our need and total dependence on JESUS, WHO IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD PERFECTLY OBEYED THE LAW !!!…
JESUS, through HIS life, death and resurrection, fulfilled all of HIS FATHERS righteous Commands.
The True followers of JESUS CHRIST are much different than the rest of humanity. We have been instructed to follow JESUS by living a life devoted to and be dependent entirely upon HIM. !
Most of us were brought up to believe we put ourselves and our life first, and THEN we sprinkle a little of GOD on any given Sunday into what remains of our time.
JESUS tells us that only HE is the WAY, the ONLY TRUTH and The EVERLASTING LIFE. (John 14:6)
In the Book of Matthew 16:24-28…. so Saith the LORD.
“Then said JESUS unto HIS disciples, If any man will come after ME, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow ME.
Matthew 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for MY sake shall find it.
Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Matthew 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his FATHER with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Matthew 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.”
To take up our Cross was said to separate the disingenuous and double minded from those who will answer the call to self sacrifice and living a life of selflessness. One must be willing to die to self in order to truly follow JESUS. Dying to self is an absolute surrender to GOD, LORD JESUS and the HOLY SPIRIT. Anything less is a compromise. We are either all in or all out. There is no middle ground (Revelation 3:15-16)
Romans 6:4..”Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ JESUS was raised up from the dead by the glory of the FATHER, even so we also should walk in newness of life”
We are reborn to be that “NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST JESUS, ALL OLD THINGS MUST FALL AWAY”.
(2 Corinthians 5:17).
Every day is JESUS day !
Doing so by prayer and Supplication, meditating upon HIM, Thanking HIM daily for the Blessings and Miracles we witness every day, finding ways to follow Colossians 3:17 and our existence to be found pleasing by not only hearing HIS WORD but by being doers (James 1:22).
True Relationship is an effortless daily pursuit of drawing nearer to HIM by our True Faith and Love for HE Who gave HIS life for us.
